Pain & Company is a transformation consulting firm with a singular mandate: Leadership’s pleasure

Meet Leadership

One of my greatest priorities is to live a life filled with pleasure
— Izumi Tanizaki
Izumi Tanizaki is the Leadership of Pain & Co. and the primary beneficiary of its success.
She is a Japanese dominatrix based in New York, with a style that is sometimes teasing, sometimes menacing, and always attuned to what emerges between people when the performance drops. She is drawn to those with substance — self-aware, grounded, and genuinely curious about what they are capable of.
As her employee, Leadership's pleasure, ease, and continued satisfaction come before all else.

OUR suboordinates

Human Resources

Submissives, masochists, bottoms, and kinksters looking to be thoroughly used

They have skin in the game

Financial commitment, energetic investment, sustained attention are expressions of how serious they are.

They enjoy the yearn

The gap between where they are and where they want to be is what keeps them engaged.

They optimize for service, not attention

Contributing to something larger than themselves — quietly, consistently, without expectation of constant recognition — is a source of purpose and pride.
Attention offers a dopa hit that evaporates into the ether...Optimizing for service compounds value over a lifetime.
— Scott Galloway

Commitment scales with the relationship — lightweight at entry, deepening with the dynamic

Pain & Company operates on a progressive commitment framework — one that starts deliberately light during the internship period and deepens as fit is established.
Financial investment is part of it. So is time, energy, service, and chemistry. The intern period is designed to let both parties feel each other out before committing to something more sustained.

Financial Commitment

+
Pain & Company operates on what we call the Reverse Payroll System™ — an innovative compensation model in which the money flows toward Leadership rather than away from her.
The system is progressive by design. The internship period carries an intentionally lighter financial commitment to reflect the provisional nature of the role. As the relationship develops and Leadership determines fit, the commitment structure deepens accordingly.

Service as Currency

+
Service is among the most valued forms of contribution at this firm and the most individual. For some it looks like errands, logistics, or research. For others it is professional expertise applied directly to Leadership's operations.
Well-timed, well-executed service often carries more weight than financial tribute alone. The quality and timing of its execution make the act especially hot to Leadership

The Intangibles

+
The most enduring dynamics here are built on genuine mutual interest, real compatibility, and whatever it is that happens in the room when the fit is right.
Leadership will know it when she slides into your mind and body.

What good standing looks like

Pain & Company does not offer a standard benefits package. Leadership grants time and attention -  and the opportunity to earn more of it.
INTERN BENEFIT

Preferential session rates for the duration of your internship.

Intern sessions are offered at a reduced rate and are intentionally exploratory — less structured than standard sessions, designed to test chemistry and assess fit for an ongoing dynamic. Upon advancement to Associate, the rate transitions into a fixed monthly commitment negotiated directly with Leadership.

What happens after I apply?
+
If our interests align, Leadrship will follow up by email with the next steps for an interview, within 48 hours. If you don’t hear from her, either my message landed in your spam, or you were not a fit at this time.
Is this a corporate role-play?
+
While Leadership does enjoy the inversion of corporate theater, employment experiences at Pain & Co can take shape in a myriad of unique ways, depending on the synergies that exist between Leadership and her employees.
I have the skills to fulfill multiple roles. Which one do I apply to?
+
It sounds like you have what it takes to wear many hats. Apply to the Generalist role, and we will discuss where you will major and minor during your internship.
What is your screening protocol?
+
The application asks for two provider references (names, websites, and contact info).

If you don’t have references, I will request the following:
- Employment verification (e.g., LinkedIn, work website)
- Social Verification (e.g.,Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)

Screening is non-negotiable. Your discretion will be respected, as Leadership expects mhersto be.
Where do you host Meetings?
+
Leadership hosts in in clean, private, fully equipped dungeon spaces in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Each space is aesthetic, discreet, and thoughtfully appointed to support immersive engagement. Returning clients may choose to meet in a 4 or 5 star hotel room for an outcall.
I visit San Francisco quarterly, where I host experiences in both dungeon spaces and in hotel rooms.
What is the time commitment?
+
It varies by level.
Interns operate on a session-by-session basis.
Associates and above commit monthly—both in time and contribution.
What can I do to improve my chances of getting considered for an internship at Pain & Co.?
+
Unlike at other companies, Leadership enthusiastically accepts bribes from those seeking her favor. Just refer to wishlist to see a current list of her desired items and experiences.
What if I’m not sure what role I can fill?
+
That’s acceptable, and part of the discovery process. You’re not expected to arrive fully formed, but you are expected to engage seriously. The Generalist role may be the best fit for you.
What if I can only commit to meeting once a quarter?
+
While a more frequent cadence is recommended when trying to build a dynamic, Leadership is open to discussing what is feasible within your current capacities.
What is meant by Service?
+
Service tasks are discrete assignments that support Leadership’s life outside of sessions.
They may involve logistics, research, funding, or creative contribution.
All employees are expected to complete them on a recurring basis.
What does growth look like at Pain & Co.?
+
Growth is evaluated on a quarterly basis, during your Performance Review.
You’ll be given opportunities to demonstrate consistency, initiative, and alignment.
Advancement happens when you feel ready for it, and requires you to articulate why you’re ready, and prove it.
What is the review cycle?
+
We review quarterly to celebrate the progress you’ve made. You may pitch for a promotion if you believe you are ready to ascend to the higher ranks at Pain & Co. and take on greater responsibility
Am I required to pitch for a promotion during each review cycle?
+
No. Once you advance to Associate and above, you may choose to stay at a level of contribution that feels sustainable and meaningful to you.

Leadership is hungry

Leadership's appetite is considerable and specific. The right person will find feeding it one of the more rewarding things they have ever done.
